5 Minute Hot Quinoa Breakfast Cereal

I must admit, I rarely have more than five minutes to prepare breakfast for myself most mornings.  Weekdays usually consist of scurrying out of the house with either a breakfast smoothie or coffee to go.  When I do have an extra few minutes, I love having this warming quinoa cereal which literally takes five minutes to prepare.  Most of us are accustomed to having quinoa as a savoury dish, but this wonderful, protein rich grain is excellent for breakfast.
Take an extra few minutes for yourself this morning, I sure did.

  1. This sounds great, I’ve never tried quinoa flakes, they obviously cook a lot more quickly than quinoa seeds!

  2. I make quinoa a lot, but I’ve never had it for breakfast. I’ve also never tried quinoa flakes. I usually have oatmeal for breakfast, but this looks just as easy to make and would mix things up a bit. I’ll have to pick up some quinoa flakes the next time I go to Whole Foods. Celeste 🙂

    • Hey Celeste! These cook up so quickly so it’s a great alternative to oats (which are also so good for you and your gut health). I’ve never used quinoa flakes in baking, but they can be used in cookies, muffins or breads as well! It would take some experimenting, because they would soak up moisture for sure…

    • Me, too, Celeste ! 🙂

  3. Hi, where do you buy your quinoa flakes from? Looks delicious!

    • Sophia | Love and Lentils says:

Hi there! I got them in the organic section of my regular grocery store – and of course health food stores carry them.

  4. Ah am gonna trah this ! (As to the ‘accent’, no, I have no idea ! [grin]) Just have to get the quinoa flakes as opposed to the little thinggies.
And some fruit. Tell me, Sophia, where do you buy blueberries that are actually sweet ? – or raspberries ? Never found any I can eat. No matter: I shall use bananas and … sumpn else. 🙂

      Hello Margaret!
This post was done last summer, and that’s when I always buy my fresh berries from the local farmer’s market. They are unbelievably sweet and delicious! As for the rest of the year, it’s quite discouraging because they aren’t in season and nothing compares to the farmer’s market…but we still buy them at the health food store.
      Hope this helps!
      Sophia
