Berry Red Beet Juice

It’s no secret, we are a beet-loving family.  I grew up eating them, and we often include them in our meals in a very simple way – usually boiled and served with a drizzle of olive oil.  My son loves them so much as well, which is so awesome since we can’t deny the amazing health benefits.

Beet Juice

Beets have been used in folk remedies for centuries, and the main reason being that they are loaded with betanin, an amazing antioxidant.  Their intense, deep red colour is not only gorgeous to look at, but shows how loaded they are with antioxidants. They are a wonderful tonic for the liver, working as a purifier for the blood.  Besides all of this, they are loaded with many other minerals and vitamins and taste delicious.  They work especially well with berries in smoothies or juices, as well as citrus and greens.  I’ve made many different beet juice concoctions, but my son simply loves this one!  Beets are naturally very sweet and moist, which makes them ideal for incorporating in a variety of beet dishes, desserts, or juices.

Beet Juice

I don’t know about you, but I can barely keep my eyes open past 9:00pm and this weekend was a jam-packed party.  We celebrated two friends’ birthdays last night, and we were home in the wee hours.  I was so exhausted today and I notice that I always crave fresh juice when I’m low on energy.  The energy boost from nutritious juices always seems to amaze me.  I felt so much better after having a tall glass of my Berry Red Beet Juice today.  

So I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday with pink-stained hands.  Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone!

Beet Juice

Berry Red Beet Juice

Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 organic beets
  • 8 organic strawberries
  • 1 organic orange

Instructions

  1. Wash the beets, strawberries and orange.
  2. Cut the greens off the strawberries, and slice the beets and orange into quarters.
  3. Place all ingredients through your juicer.
  4. Serve and drink right away.

Refresher Juice with Apple, Kiwi, Lime + Mint

What’s better on a hot, sunny day than a fresh fruit juice?  This one’s sweet and refreshing, perfect for a morning pick me up or an afternoon refresher.  Although oranges are always in the spotlight for vitamin C content, did you know that kiwis actually contain more vitamin C?  You get about one and a half times the recommended daily value from one kiwi.  How awesome is that.  Along with loads of vitamin C (kiwi, apple, and lime), this juice is packed with fiber (apple), protein and antioxidants (mint and spirulina).  If you are not too familiar with spirulina, I wrote about it in a previous blog post here.

So, dust off your juicer and let’s get juicing.

Makes 1 glass of juice

Refresher Juice with Apple Kiwi Lime Mint Juice

Refresher Juice Ingredients:

  • 2 gala apples
  • 2 kiwi fruit
  • 1 lime
  • 10-20 sprigs of mint
  • 1 teaspoon spirulina powder

Directions:

  • Cut the apple into quarters so that it fits in your juicer.
  • Place apples, kiwis, and lime in juicer.  My juicer doesn’t extract the juice from mint, so I added the mint and spirulina along with the juice into my blender afterwards.  If you can juice the mint, go for it.
  • Pour into your favourite glass, sip, and enjoy.

Carrot, Apple, Ginger Juice

One word – delicious!  I whipped up this juice in minutes, and probably drank it just as fast.  Rich in vitamin A and C, beta-carotene, and other nutrients, it’s also a fantastic feeling knowing how healthy this is for you.  Ginger is amazing for your gut health, helping in digestion and also absorption of important nutrients in your body.

So, here it is!

Carrot Apple Ginger Juice

Carrot, Apple, Ginger Juice Recipe

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 3 washed carrots
  • 2 washed gala apples
  • 1 inch peeled ginger

Directions:

  • Process all ingredients in your juicer.
  • Pour into your cup and drink immediately.
  • Enjoy the deliciousness!

Mighty Green Juice

Happy Easter folks!

In my home, we have been up since the crack of dawn with a very excited preschooler hunting for treasures left by the Easter Bunny.
I know we will all be indulging in some goodies, so what better day than today to start it off with my Mighty Green Juice.

Super easy to do and the health benefits are soaring!  I love to add lemons to my fresh juices, as they are amazing at eliminating the bitter taste of the dark leafy green vegetables that provide most of the benefits of juicing.  One benefit of juicing compared to eating the vegetable or fruit whole is that your body can absorb the nutrients better by letting the juicer do some of the hard digesting work that would be necessary in eating whole food.  Not to mention, the cancer-fighting and antioxidant benefits.

Mighty Green Juice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 apples, sliced in half (I used Gala, you can use whatever you like, Granny Smith would work perfectly!)

Apple Kale Lemon Juicing

Directions:

  • Wash all fruit and vegetables thoroughly, as you will be juicing them skin and all.
  • Place all ingredients one by one into your juicer.  I use a Big Mouth Hamilton Beach Juicer, you might have something better!
  • Let all the goodness pour into your glass, and enjoy!
